The town was founded by Greeks 350 years B.C., later the Romans settled here, who reigned until 1860, when Napoleon III declared it to be the property of France. During the Victorian era Nice became one of the most popular places of recreation thanks to English aristocracy that was followed by Russians and Americans.

Nice keeps its tradition, although it is considered a modern city. The castle, the fort Mont Alban, the palace Rusca or the Notre-Dame de Nice Cathedral are its architectural gems. The traditional jazz festival is held here since 1948, attended by Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles or Herbie Hancock.

At the old town mainly souvenirs are sold, but at the Angels' Promenade you can find even genuine design shops. At the Galéries shopping centre the most known commercial boutiques can be found under one roof.

Nice can boast with rich sports palette: the city organises triathlon tournaments and half-marathons. With its gorgeous bays Nice is a favourite place for divers. The city offers sports opportunities for all who prefer mountainous terrains: Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes and Ironman are organized here regularly.

Nice can be grateful for its beauty even because of the extensive green-grown surfaces and places. There are 300 hectares of gardens with a number of plane trees, limes, pines and of course, palm trees. There is no reason to wonder why Nice was thanks to the greens designated to be the most beautiful city of France.
