Some of the most important dominants of the city comprise the Špilberk Castle and the Cathedral of Saint Peter and Paul (better known as Petrov). Another preserved castle on the territory of Brno is the Veveří Castle situated by the Brno Dam Lake.

Brno is a dominant centre of culture and art. It is also an important administrative centre and the seat of judicial authority of the Czech Republic.

The local American football team - Brno Alligators - plays the national ČLAF (Czech League of American Football) competition and domestic matches on the TJ Tatran Bohunice stadium. The club was founded in 1991 mostly by students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Brno University of Technology.

Brno is situated on the south of Moravia at the confluence of the Svitava and Svratka rivers. The Brno Dam Lake will also enable shipping. Other tourism attractions include the beginning of the Moravský kras Protected Landscape Area.
